Nearly 6,000 Pedestrians Killed in 2017 Crashes, New Report Says

by | Apr 4, 2018 | 0 comments

According to recent reports, U.S. pedestrian deaths totaled nearly 6,000 in 2017 for the second consecutive year amid mounting signs that pedestrians and drivers are dangerously distracted.

Although reasons have not been scientifically determined, experts and the Miami accident attorneys at Weinstein & Cohen suspect that smartphone use is one of the key factors in this trend. We’ve all seen it, or even done it ourselves, but walking while looking down at a screen can be inherently dangerous.

The spike in pedestrian deaths comes despite major improvements in vehicle safety, including the introduction of emergency braking systems, onboard cameras and collision-alert technology.

Unfortunately, the combination of distracted pedestrians and distracted drivers is a deadly combination. At some point, all of us across South Florida and the Southwest Coast need to take responsibility and put down their phones.

If you or someone you care about has been injured or involved in a car or truck accident, contact the personal injury and accident attorneys at Weinstein & Cohen at 305-374-1011 or 239-793-3331, or visit fairnessforall, for an absolutely free and confidential legal consultation to learn more about your options.
